- France is the largest European producer of sugar ahead of Germany, Poland and UK.

- France is the 2nd largest producer worldwide of sugar beet.

- The sugar industry employs 52,500 people and generates sales of 3.4 billion euros.

- France produces 2.2 million tonnes of co-products(1.2 million of dehydrated pulp, 0.5 million of treacle and 0.5 million of bagasse).

- France is the leading European producer of alcohol with a volume estimated at 12 million hl. This alcohol is increasingly used as a fuel (bioethanol).
